The Cycle of Giving

We don't just hand out used gear, We restore dignity through quality

Cap it forward is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization

1. Collect

We partner with country clubs, tournaments, and student-atheletes to set up collection bins.  We accept new and gently used caps.

2. Recondition

This is our key step. Every used hat is washed, reshaped, and sanitized. We ensure every item donated looks and feels like a gift, not a hand-me-down.

3. Donate

We distribute the restored hats to shelters and underprivileged youth programs, providing warmth and sun protection.

Tyler Yao

Founder & Competitive Golfer

"Most athletes have garage just like mine - full of gears we'll never wear.  It's time to put that surplus to good use."

My name is Tyler Yao. As a high school competitive golfer playing in local, national, and international events, I accumulate a lot of gear. Between tee gifts, sponsor packages, and family presents, I end up with close to 50-70 caps every single year.

Most of them just sat in my garage, collecting dust.

The turning point came on a cold day driving through Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA). I saw homeless individuals shivering, some wearing two beat-up caps just to try and retain heat. It struck me: I have boxes of brand-new or barely used hats sitting uselessly at home, while people just miles away are suffering without basic warmth.

That contrast didn't sit right with me. I realized that if I had this surplus, thousands of other athletes do too. Cap It Forward was born to bridge that gap.
